Merrifield Garden Center’s custom blended Merrifield Flowering Plant Food is ideal for use on flowering annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs. It is formulated with 50% slow-release nitrogen, is high in phosphorus and contains micronutrients for strong growth and beautiful blooms. We recommend feeding annuals, perennials and roses two to three times per year. We recommend feeding flowering trees and shrubs with Merrifield Flowering Plant Food in the fall. Merrifield Flowering Plant Food can also be applied to non flowering plants to help woody plants harden off before winter.

Merrifield Flowering Plant Food comes in a 20 lb. bag which can feed a large number of plants. It will feed 10 trees that are around 15’ tall or 20 plants that are around 8’ tall. We also carry it in a 6 pound jug.

We can deliver bags of Merrifield Flowering Plant Food to your location. In addition to delivery, we can also provide installation services. If you’re interested in having our team install your plant food, please book a landscape appointment and select Garden Cleanup, Mulch and Sod as the appointment type.

When applying Merrifield Flowering Plant Food:

  • Feed the plant food to your plants in the spring through summer during the active growing season. Trees and shrubs would also enjoy a late fall application, just before the ground freezes. Each time you apply, it will feed your plants for 10 to 12 weeks.
  • Use 1½ cups of the plant food per 100 square feet for a bed of annuals, perennials, bulbs or flowering ground covers.
  • Apply the fertilizer over the root zone, which are areas on that ground that start around 6 to 12” away from the trunk and extend outwards in all directions.

Water the area thoroughly.

Where can I use your flowering plant food?

Our flowering plant food can be used on any and all flowering plants. We recommend using it on plants such as hydrangeas, zinnias, dogwoods, fruit trees, and any other plants that bloom.

How much do I apply?

We placed a convenient chart on the bags of our flowering plant food for you to follow when placing it throughout your landscape.

Do I need to water it in?

Yes, our flowering plant food should be watered within a day or two of application, but preferably right after you add it to your plants.
