Merrifield Premium is a granular fertilizer blended to support established lawns. We developed this formula specifically to the conditions in our mid-Atlantic area by working with research conducted by Virginia Tech and the University of Maryland.

This blend contains 26% long lasting, slow release nitrogen for a thick, lush, dark green lawn and 12% sulfate of potash for drought resistance and turf vigor. We recommend feeding your established lawn with Merrifield Premium three times a year, once in the spring and twice in the fall.

To achieve the optimal fertilizer recommendations while seeding, follow these guidelines:

  • If you plan to seed your lawn in the spring, use Merrifield Select at the time of seeding. Then, fertilize with Merrifield Premium twice in the fall, with at least four weeks between each application.
  • If you plan to seed your lawn in the fall, fertilize with Merrifield Premium in the spring and apply Merrifield Select at the time of fall seeding. After the seed has germinated–typically a period of 4 weeks for Merrifield Tuff Play and 6 to 8 weeks for Merrifield Shady and Merrifield Sunny–and reached optimal mowing height of 3”+, feed once more with Merrifield Premium.
  • Always follow the application instructions on the back of the bag.

Merrifield Premium comes in a 17 lb. bag and treats 5,000 square feet of lawn.

We can deliver bags of Merrifield Premium All Purpose Lawn Food to your location. In addition to delivery, we can also provide installation services. If you’re interested in having our team install your lawn food, please book a landscape appointment and select Garden Cleanup, Mulch and Sod as the appointment type.

When feeding your lawn:

  • Give your landscape a fresh mow.
  • Cover your entire lawn completely with even, uniform coverage of lawn food using a spreader (see the application rate on the back of the bag). See our recommended spreader settings here.
  • Sweep away any excess fertilizer that made its way onto your driveway, sidewalk or other hard surfaces into the grass.

Water the freshly fed lawn with ½ to 1” of water.

What do the numbers on the front of the bag (26-0-12) mean?

This number means that the lawn food contains 26% nitrogen, 0% phosphorus and 12% potassium. Our blend is regionally formulated and specific to our area of the country.

Is there anywhere that I can’t add your all purpose lawn food?

We recommend that you refrain from applying our lawn food near water, storm drains or drainage ditches. We also suggest waiting a day or two to apply the food if you are expecting heavy rain. Apply this product only to your lawn or garden and sweep away any product that lands on the driveway, sidewalk or street.

What setting should I use for my lawn food spreader?

Typically, your spreader should be ½ of the way open. We recommend checking with the manufacturer of your lawn spreader to determine the setting for spreading a medium particle fertilizer.
