Merrifield Select is a granular starter fertilizer that is ideal to use when seeding a new lawn, overseeding an existing lawn or installing sod. We developed this formula specifically for the conditions in our mid-Atlantic area by working with research conducted by Virginia Tech and the University of Maryland.
This formula includes 14% long lasting, slow release nitrogen, 18% phosphorus and 14% sulfate of potash, providing a controlled, balanced feed to aid in seed germination, root growth and support overall turf health. Apply Merrifield Select 14-18-14 after you put down your grass seed. Then, cover the seeded spots with a light layer of compost, topsoil or straw and water to keep the seed moist.
Merrifield Select comes in a 20 lb. bag, which treats 5,000 square feet of lawn.
We can deliver bags of Merrifield Select Seed Starting Lawn Food to your location. In addition to delivery, we can also provide installation services. If you’re interested in having our team install your lawn food, please book a landscape appointment and select Garden Cleanup, Mulch and Sod as the appointment type.
Merrifield Select seed starting lawn food is intended to be used when seeding your lawn.
Water frequently to keep the seed moist until your new grass fills in and reaches mowing height. Then apply 1” of water per week.
What do the numbers on the front of the bag (14-18-14) mean?
This number means that the lawn food contains 14% nitrogen, 18% phosphorus and 14% potassium. Our blend is regionally formulated and specific to our area of the country.
Is there anywhere that I can’t add your all purpose lawn food?
We recommend that you refrain from applying our lawn food near water, storm drains or drainage ditches. We also suggest waiting a day or two to apply the food if you are expecting heavy rain. Apply this product only to your lawn or garden and sweep away any product that lands on the driveway, sidewalk or street.
What setting should I use for my lawn food spreader?
Typically, your spreader should be ½ of the way open. We recommend checking with the manufacturer of your lawn spreader to determine the setting for spreading a medium particle fertilizer.
