How to calculate the square footage of an area

At Merrifield Garden Center our team of Plant Specialists developed our own custom blended Merrifield Potting Mix to use while planting annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables and indoor container plants. It includes sphagnum peat moss and compost that are wonderful for moisture and nutrient retention, as well as perlite for improved drainage. It also features aged pine bark to help improve the soil structure while anchoring and supporting your plants. Plus, an added starter fertilizer and micronutrient base to help feed your plants. This ingredient base creates a mix with optimal water retention and drainage, allowing you to water less frequently than other mixes, while also preventing root rot.

Merrifield Potting Mix comes in three sizes, 8 qt., 16 qt., and 32 qt. bags. 150 8 qt. bags will fit on a pallet, 120 60 qt. bags will fit on a pallet and 75 32 qt. bags can fit on a pallet. If you’re ordering a full pallet of material we will bring a forklift to unload the product onto your driveway.

We can deliver bags of Merrifield Potting Mix to your location. In addition to delivery, we can also provide installation services. If you’re interested in having our team install your potting mix, please book a landscape appointment and select Garden Cleanup, Mulch and Sod as the appointment type.

When using our special potting mix:

  • Find containers with drainage holes for whichever plant you’d like to pot.
  • Fill your pot ⅔ of the way up the pot with Merrifield’s potting mix.
  • Remove your plant from the grower pot and loosen the roots before placing it in the soil. A good rule of thumb is to have the top of the soil be 1” below the lip of the container.

Water it well and place the pot on a saucer to hold the excess water.

What’s the difference between Merrifield planting mix and potting mix?

Merrifield planting mix is placed in the ground as opposed to our potting mix which is used for containers. Our potting mix can be used in anything that grows in a pot.
