Pro-Mix Organic Vegetable and Herb is a potting mix specially formulated for organic fruit and vegetable gardening. It contains Canadian sphagnum peat moss, peat humus, compost, perlite, gypsum, mycorrhizae and limestone. Its nutrient rich base will gradually feed your plants for up to 3 months after application. Pro-Mix Organic Vegetable and Herb is an OMRI-listed organic product.

Pro-Mix Organic Vegetable and Herb contains an organic fertilizer with an NPK ratio of 0.30-0.05-0.10. This means it contains:

  • 30% Nitrogen (N): For green, leafy growth
  • 05% Phosphorus (P): For strong root development and blooms
  • 10% Potassium (K): For overall plant health and disease resistance

We stock Pro-Mix Organic Vegetable and Herb in 1 cu. ft. and 2 cu. ft. bags.

We offer local delivery services for bagged and bulk products. In addition to delivery, we can also provide installation services. If you’re interested in having our team install your compost, please book a landscape appointment and select Garden Cleanup, Mulch and Sod as the appointment type.

When using Pro-Mix Organic Vegetable and Herb:

  • Select a container appropriately sized for the fruit or vegetable you’d like to grow and ensure the container has drainage holes in the bottom. For example, if you’re planting a tomato plant, we suggest using a 15-gallon or 21” diameter container or larger. This will allow the plant enough room to grow to maturity while also providing enough soil to support plant production and ensure ease of watering. A larger container means more soil and more water holding capacity, which equals less frequent watering and less stress to the plant (and tastier tomatoes).
  • Place a piece of landscape fabric over the drainage holes if you have a piece handy. This helps prevent the soil from washing out of the drainage holes as you water.
  • Fill your container at least ⅔ of the way up with Pro-Mix Organic Vegetable and Herb. If you’re starting with a small tomato plant in a 4” container, for example, you’re going to fill the entire container with soil and then tuck in the plant in the center.
  • Backfill around the plant with additional Pro-Mix Organic Vegetable and Herb, if needed. A good rule of thumb is to have the top of the soil be 1” below the lip of the container to prevent the soil from running over the lip of the container when watering.
  • Water thoroughly. Place the container on a tray or saucer to catch water as it drains from the bottom.

Does Pro-Mix Organic Vegetable and Herb contain fertilizer?

Yes, this potting medium is pre-mixed with an organic fertilizer (0.30-0.05-0.10) that provides a gradual feed for up to 3 months. While it feeds your plants initially, heavy feeders like tomatoes or peppers may require supplemental organic fertilizer after the first 4 to 6 weeks for the best harvest.

How do I know which potting soil to use?

When it comes to selecting your potting soil, it depends on your primary use case and budget.  ProMix Vegetable and Herb is a great potting soil for growing organic vegetables, fruits and herbs.
