Cool Season Vegetables
Begin planting cool season vegetables, including cool season herbs, leafy greens and root vegetables.
- Herbs: Chives, dill, fennel, parsley
- Leafy Greens: Collard greens, kale, loose-leaf lettuces, rhubarb, spinach, Swiss chard
- Root Vegetables: Beets, carrots, garlic, onions, potatoes, radishes, turnips
Many of these cool season vegetables are an excellent choice for children and beginner gardeners. You can view our family guide to starting a vegetable garden in our blog.
Warm Season Vegetables
Start warm season vegetable seeds indoors: Basil, beans, corn, cucumber, eggplant, peppers, melons, rosemary, squash, thyme, tomatoes
Vegetable Garden Beds
Mix compost and lime into your vegetable garden to improve the soil. Make sure that the soil is not wet when you do this – it will cause the soil to clump and become difficult to work with.
